Reading Seoul Through a Walk
A walk through central Seoul recorded as a cultural observation of place, movement, and people's rhythms.
1. Situation
Seoul is familiar to me, but turning a walking route into a unit of observation reveals new cultural details. The same street feels different depending on the time of day, walking speed, density of shops, and the ways people pause or keep moving.
2. Observation
- Place: Seoul, Korea
- Observation lens: pedestrian flow, resting places, signs, storefront arrangement, and how long people remain
- Key scene: people moving quickly and people pausing briefly use the same space in different ways.
3. Interpretation
A city is not only a collection of buildings; it is also a pattern of repeated behavior. Recording a walk shows both the boundaries of my daily life and the pace and attitude that a place asks of the people using it.
4. Afterthought
For the next walking note, I will choose observation questions before taking photographs. Instead of asking only what looks beautiful, I will record where people stop and which cues change their behavior.
